Marriage Equality National Gala

I recently had the pleasure of being invited to the Marriage Equality USA‘s annual gala, held right here at 404 NYC.  For 15 years, the gala has raised funds and awareness towards legal civil marriage for all, and celebrated the progress so far.  We were treated to a beautiful dinner, cocktails, fun photo booth, chocolates by Li-Lac and speeches by honorees at Google, Stephen Wallem (Nurse Jackie), Alex McCord & Simon Van Kempen, Brian Silva, and an acoustic performance by Vicci Martinez (NBC’s The Voice).  The most memorable were the powerful speeches by the night’s honorees, including comedian/musician/overall artist Lea Delaria.  She silenced the room by reminding us of the recent vicious hate crimes in NYC, that as this movement gets stronger, the more likely those against it will lash out.  Her words echoed in my head over the next few days, and gave me a lot to reflect on with family, friends and colleagues.  I’m proud to be an Ally of Marriage Equality, and look forward to more steps taken towards equality.

Sophia Grace & Rosie – Girls Just Gotta Have Fun

Remember Sophia Grace and her hype-girl Rosie? Those adorable girls so in love with Nicki Minaj, that Ellen surprised them on her talk show to meet the superstar?  Well, they are BACK blowing up youtube with a brand new song of their own, “Girls Just Gotta Have Fun“.  If you haven’t yet, check out the video; its filled with their signature tutus & tiaras, a mini pink Escalade, a raging party, and of course, a strategic Beats product placement!  Everyone seems to have an opinion; are they too young for this?  Is this exploiting the girls?  The way I see it, props to Sophia Grace & Rosie!  They are doing just what I did, and lots of children do…being creative, playing dress-up, and goofing around in front of a camera.  I’ve got hours of dorky videos with my friends doing exactly the same thing (that I wish I had burned, hahah), it’s just that these two have a worldwide viral audience.  My one wish is that this video is re-played at their weddings, when the time comes.  Go get ‘em you too!  If you ever want to do a video cover “Life Of The Party“, go for it!
